Pikkerton sensor networks

Pikkerton builds its wireless sensor solutions on Zigbee technology.

Zigbee technology is developed by the Zigbee Alliance, an organization that includes many well-known industry partners. 35 companies are actively involved in the development of the Zigbee standard, the five most significant of which are Honeywell, Ivensys, Mitsubishi, Philips, Motorola.

The technology basically organizes the devices participating in the network in a star topology, but also supports peer-to-peer connections by creating virtual connections.

One of the most important members of Zigbee networks is the network coordinator, which in most cases is the gateway of the sensor network.

Pikkerton ZigBee Gateway

ARM architecture microcomputer with a Linux-based operating system, which performs the role of network coordinator and gateway, and also has its own web access and monitoring functions.

The data of the sensors connected to it can be accessed on the web interface and displayed graphically. In addition, it can transfer the measured data to other monitoring systems using the SNMP protocol. It has an external power supply.

Communication capabilities

  • Sensor data transmission (also to IBM Watson IoT Platform)
  • Alerts, alarms,
  • CSV / CSV-Push
  • SMTP / Email
  • SNMP, SNMP-Traps
  • Nagios-Plugin, automatic Generation of Configuration Files
  • ModBus-TCP-Slave
  • MQTT

Configuration options

  • Setting data sending and measurement cycles
  • Threshold and alarm message settings
  • Creating virtual sensors (from data from multiple sensors)
  • Integrating external sensors and data sources
  • Security, encryption

Operational capabilities

  • Graphical display and monitoring
  • Reporting
  • Logical linking of events
  • Controllable circuits
  • Device management
  • Alarms on critical modes and events

Pikkerton ZigBee sensors

The sensors are responsible for measuring and transmitting environmental data and parameter fields to the concentrator via routers.
The sensors are powered by batteries. The battery status can also be monitored. They are based on Ultra Low Power technology.

Sensor types:

  • Smart Energy Meter – network switch, more than 1 million switching cycles
  • Smart Energy Meter, DIN rail mountable – network switch, more than 1 million switching cycles
  • Smart Cable Meter 16A – for measuring the current flowing through
  • Smart Cable Meter 32A – for measuring the current flowing through
  • Light Control – Lighting control (dimming capable)
  • Outdoor Temperature Sensor – outdoor temperature sensor
  • Multi Sensor for Temperature, Brightness, Motion Detection – Temperature, light, and motion detection multi sensor
  • Multisensor for Temperature, rel. Humidity, Motion Detection, Air-Pressure, Brightness, CO2 – Temperature, relative humidity, motion detection, air pressure, light and CO2 multi sensor
  • Handheld / Pushbutton – Hand-held pushbutton for emergency call
  • Contact Sensor – For door and window opening detection
  • Pulse Counter – Pulse counter for consumption meters
  • Leakage / Water Sensor – Water sensor, water leakage sensor
  • ModBus-Adapter – Receiving consumption meter data via MODBUS protocol
  • Wireless M-Bus 4-20mA Analog Sensor – Receiving consumption meter data via M-Bus protocol and max. 4 analog inputs for 4-20mA analog sensors.

Pikkerton ZigBee router

Its task is to establish connections of the sensor network and increase the range.

These devices are automatically organized into a MESH network and can establish the connection between the gateway and the sensors via multiple routes. It has an external power supply.
