In the plant, the formation of steam is from the processing technologytherefore, it is a very high-level and fast process. In accordance with food safety regulations, the temperature and relative humidity of the plant’s air must be kept at a constant, low level. Ideal environmental conditions are maintained with an air conditioning system. They had constant problems with the existing system due to oxidation caused by high humidity, which damaged the built-in wired sensors, electronics, and the connection of the wires. The air conditioning system therefore operated uncertainly, and no relevant data was available. Keeping the system alive and maintained was not cost-effective. It took a lot of work time and travel time to detect and repair each contact error. As a solution, they decided to set up a new measurement system.
Solution:
- There was no need to install new cabling in the plant.
- It was extremely quick to deploy without disrupting processing activity.
- A future-proof system that can be easily expanded with new sensors at any time.Monnit ALTA wireless sensors provide the following data for the air conditioning system control unit:
- temperature,
- relative humidity,
- as well as the dew point calculated from these.
The advantage of the Monnit system was also shown in this environment.
Monnit industrial sensors can be installed anywhere in an IP65 protected housing, moisture will not destroy the electronics inside them. The Monnit ALTA serial MODBUS industrial gateway (MODBUS, RS232-485, also IP-65 protected) is located in a central location, so all sensors are directly connected to it. (Their range is ~300 meters.)
Results, satisfaction:
The plant’s air conditioning system operates stably, thanks to accurate data arriving on time. Quality assurance and operators can monitor the development of conditions at any time, which is also logged. When the authorities check, the data is always available, can be retrieved and viewed. As a result, inspections have been shortened, as the system is under constant supervision, so operators can react immediately to errors.
In contrast to manual measurement and data recording, the data provided by Monnit sensors are accurate. Measurement and recording are always done automatically at the necessary intervals.
Overall, it can be said that the plant managers found it reassuring that:
- the production conditions are always suitable thanks to the stable operation,
- adequate quality information is available,
- and they can make their decisions based on real data.

Animal housing systems
We received a request from our partner for the online monitoring of a building used for large-scale chicken keeping, which included the following criteria:
- The temperature of the shed must be measured with a measurement frequency of 30 seconds and the measurement results must be stored every 15 minutes. If the set critical values are reached, the system will send an immediate alarm.
- The phase monitor monitors the three-phase feed points in the switch cabinet located in the forecourt of the sheds and sends an immediate alarm in the event of a phase failure.
- Based on the data of the door opening sensors, the system stores the times of openings, closings and stays open, and sends an alarm based on the set parameters.
Solution:

Sensors
Air temperature monitoring:

Monitoring the relative humidity of the air:

Electrical supply supervision:

Measurement of current, power and consumption:
We recommend the current measuring sensor with a current transformer (padlock catch) to measure the current. This sensor is able to measure the instantaneous current as well as the average current consumption (expressed in Ah). Electricity consumption can be measured with a submeter with a pulse output and a pulse counter sensor.

Supervision of drinkers:

Monitoring of engines:
Pumps and motors can be monitored with temperature, current and vibration sensors. During operation, motors and pumps have a constant operating temperature, current consumption and vibration. On the one hand, we can check the normal operation, and on the other hand, the rising parameters indicate the possibility of an error occurring soon.

Heating system monitoring:
The boiler can be monitored with the sensor measuring up to 400 ºC.

Local supervision:

Supervision of bee hives
With the Monnit ALTA wireless sensor system, bee hives can be excellently monitored. Since the sensors use wireless (radio) technology, it is very easy to equip the hives with the appropriate sensors. A very big advantage of the Monnit radio technology is that it takes a few tenths of a second to send the measurement results, there is no continuous radio transmission, which would adversely affect the bees’ ability to find their way around. The intelligent sensors can be set in the monitoring system, how often to measure and at what intervals to send measured data.
The Monnit ALTA humidity sensor —> can be used to measure the temperature inside the hive and the moisture content of the air. By guiding the probe inside the hive, we can see the current exact values in the monitoring system.
With the help of the Monnit ALTA acceleration meter —>, we can get an immediate alarm if the hive moves. This is of great importance in protecting the hives against theft. Since the sensor can be attached to the hive, it will signal even if an attempt is made to remove it.
In case of relocation, we can use the gateway (concentrator) connected to mobile networks to transmit data, which can be taken 300-350 meters from the hives. The system requires very little data traffic, so we do not need to use a SIM card with a large subscription (data package). It can be used with any operator’s SIM card.
